Join us for a fun weekend, playing West African drum rhythms, making new friends and absorbing the wonderful atmosphere at Wangat Lodge.
Approx 3 hrs from both Sydney and Port Macquarie, Wangat Lodge is a mud brick villa in a beautiful location that is designed especially for weekend retreats. As well as plenty of drumming, there will be time for you to relax in the awesome surroundings, go on bush walks and check out the wildlife with the experienced caretakers of the area.

Friday March 8th:
4.00pm: Settle into your accommodation, enjoy a visit to the Chichester dam, prepare meals or rest after travelling. There is plenty of fridge space in the industrial sized kitchen.
6.30pm: Meal time – We will have complimentary vege soup and bread rolls available or make your own meal.
8.30pm: Welcome Circle – Greetings, orientation and light drum session.
7.15am - 8.30am: Morning drum meditation in the main area (optional) and remember to bring your yoga mat!
8.45am - 9.45am: Breakfast.
10.00am – 12.00pm: Djembe Drumming – Beginners / General
12.00pm – 1.30pm: Lunch
1.45pm - 3.45pm: Dun Dun Drumming A limited number of dun sets will be available – Contact Chris to reserve a set Djembe drummers also play a role in this session.OR be taken on a guided bush walk with the lovely Wangat caretakers
4.00pm – 5.00pm: Hand Percussion, Singing, Expression Session
5.00pm - 6.00pm: Siesta – walk – chill time
6.15pm - 7.30pm: Communal Feast – Bring your food to share and enjoy!
8.30pm: Fire Circle! (weather permitting) Celebrate Saturday night with a tribal drum n’ dance circle. Dress up, let your hair down and get ready for some big time fun!
8.00am - 9.30am: Breakfast and morning gathering
10.00am - 11.30am: Drumming playshop: General, Intermediate and Dun Duns Incorporating a gentle stretching session, we will see the retreat out with a fun packed playshop, reviewing the rhythms we have learnt together and finish our session with a huge drum jam!
12.00pm - Lunch and farewells
Please note: *In the event of wet weather, some outdoor activity times may be changed or held indoors. *Wangat is a wildlife sanctuary and pets are not allowed.
Costs - Bookings - What to bring:
No drumming experience necessary – drums are supplied for those who do not have their own.
Retreat rate is $250 each for a shared room or $280 each for a couples room (2 people max) BOOK ASAP
Hostel style – bottom bunks are being used only, for more personal space
Payments by EFT, cheque or money order
Food - To help keep the retreat affordable, the event is self catered. Be sure to bring enough food for your stay including drinks; Pre prepared meals ready to heat are really handy, especially on Saturday night when we all share at the smorgasbord.
Wangat Lodge has great facilities including a commercial kitchen, BBQ and shared fridge space. You’re welcome to bring your own esky if you like. Ice and general groceries can be purchased at Dungog.
